I had a beautiful experience with Mugwort, on the eve of the New Moon in Sagittarius, on December 1st. It's taken a few days to integrate the experience. I knew that I wanted to share.
Thank you for being here to witness my expression and connection. I truly hope that you feel inspired to co-create with the plant allies that speak to you. They do speak 💜
This is not a typical piece of writing on the organ systems of which Mugwort has an affinity for, or which symptoms she can cease. She has incredible physiological impacts, but I'm not going to touch on those here. I often talk about how herbalism is more than just, "take this herb for this symptom". It is a divine connection between the Great Plant Spirit and every living thing. A stewardship, of tending to the earth and guiding others back to their birthright. It is an understanding of the energetic threads that connect us together. Acknowledging the microcosm and macrocosm and learning how these patterns and cycles show up and weave themselves energetically into our lives.
Oftentimes I feel unequipped or perhaps nervous to share these experiences. The connection that I have with the natural world is deep, it always has been. It's grown deeper as my time on this earth grows longer.
Mugwort. Artemisia Vulgaris. She is the glowing moon, on the darkest of winter nights. She is the hearth fire burning, transforming, warming our bodies. Allowing the warmth to build into a fiery passion of creativity, of creation and growth.
As the namesake - this beautiful plant ally is associated with the ancient and mythic tale of the goddess Artemis. We can often see her depicted in mythology as holding a bow and arrow. Setting her sights on that which will provide sustenance.
This synchronicity was rather fitting. The New Moon that just occured was in Sagittarius, symbolized by the centaur archer. The centaur speaks to our instinctive inner being and the untamed part of us. Artemis awakens our inner wildness. She is a guardian and tends the children, along with the action of the hunt.
Much like Sagittarius season, when we work with Mugwort and the archetype Artemis- we can ask ourselves where are we aiming with our arrow? What is the trajectory of our path? Do we perhaps need to pull the arrow back a bit further to allow for the fullest trajectory in the direction we have set our sights on?
Okay, okay- back to the plants. When you deepen your relationship with these amazing plant kin, you realize they are as much a part of you as you are of them. Conversations and connections take place even without the physical presence of the plant. When Mugwort speaks to me, she speaks with such depth, in a calm and smooth manner. She is articulate and does not hurry; as she is deeply attuned to the lunar cycle and builds up and let's go much like the moon, like the womb, the seasons. Knowing that loss and death is just a transmutation to another form. A reminder that everything is energy. All we have is right now.
So it was. The experience to share. I began my journey, focusing on my breath. Attuning to the cosmic consciousness crackling within every inhale and exhale. Allowing my physical body to soften, to rest. Tension easing as I call upon the wise Mugwort. Requesting her presence.
Memories of Mugwort come forward from past lives. A remembering of the expansive web she weaves for those who are brave enough to listen to her call. Dreams of different timelines where we co-created, visions of what is to come, and how we all come together in this life. The amount of people awakening to their true nature, burning down the walls and breaking the chains of structures that don't work for humanity, for nature.
When I sat with Mugwort, my mind wandered to a few places. The first, to a cold winters night; being warmed by the fire after some time outside. Or perhaps on a long and tiresome sea voyage, with high tide, crashing waves- Mugwort looks to the moon and lowers the tides so we may step foot on solid ground once more.
Mugwort asks us to align ourselves with the lunar cycle, with our wildness, with nature. This is so we may awaken and integrate the true wisdom of the universe within our selves, our blood, our lineage.
An ode to the sacredness of this plant ally that beckons us to spiral deeper, still. That which brings forth our consciousness, guiding us to the astral realm. The astral realm is a liminal space that honors all that is and all that will be. It is not only for our emergence into a new human life once this one is finished; but also for viewing and integrating soul ties, karmic lessons and deep soul- level energy work. Mugwort is a plant of protection, bravery, connection, warmth, guardian of liminal space and transcendence.
